I WOULD like to reply to the comments made on the Readers’ Letters page about calling an ambulance for our son.

First of all, can I say that taxis are not insured to take an injured person or even a child to a hospital, especially with severe breaks.

Secondly, we have had full apologies from the ambulance service as they have admitted they were wrong in not sending one and a full investigation is still ongoing.

My issue was not against anyone requiring a 999 service as it stated – my point was that I was very annoyed when I read after the incident about petrol prices and huge bills on ambulances.

To say the least, this was a child in such pain and distress, and any parent would not think to call a taxi. Your first thought is to dial 999 – it’s simple, he’s a child, he’s upset and in such pain. It upsets any parent to see their child in such discomfort.

I feel disgusted about some of the awful comments that have been made over the past few days regarding children needing emergency services. That’s what we pay national contributions for.
