Students from Joseph Rowntree School celebrate winning the Green Griffins’ Nest competition.
The Dragons’ Den-style eco contest required pupils to to develop a new method to reduce waste in their community.
The Year 9 team came out top after impressing judges with their idea of reusing old coffee cups as plant pots to sell on. They were awarded a £1,000 cheque.
A team from Millthorpe School claimed the runners-up spot, while Huntington School won a prize for the best branded idea.
The Green Griffins’ Nest Initiative was run by North Yorkshire Business and Education Partnership in association with CPP and City of York Council’s economic development unit.
