PUPILS learned the art of table service ahead of the annual Year 6 leavers’ party at Yearsley Grove Primary School in York – courtesy of staff at the Best Western Monkbar Hotel.
Traditionally, Year 5 pupils are taught hospitality skills – which include carrying plates, serving food and clearing tables – at the city centre hotel, which has hosted the event for the last four years.
June Nelsey, Monkbar Hotel director, said: “The Year 6 pupils’ ball is now a firm fixture on our calendar. We don’t just provide the venue, we work with the pupils in make sure nothing is left to chance.
“An important element of the party is the service, which is undertaken by Year 5 pupils. It is seen as an honour to help out at the event and we make sure the pupils have been well taught in restaurant etiquette.”
