EAST Yorkshire rally duo – Sammi Gabb from North Duffield and Tracey Cook from Pocklington – suffered a low five in their third competition since teaming up at the Chatsworth Rally Show last month.
Their latest event, the Opposite Lock rally at Manby in Lincolnshire, brought new challenges for the Girls Rallying team in their Peugeot 106 Rallye with both grass and Tarmac surfaces.
But the York Motor Club duo rose to the task in the Autoserv of Selby-prepared car during the first four stages, at which they were in 54th place out of 75.
However, at the start of the fifth stage calamity struck with a clutch failure. Despite the valiant efforts of the mechanics, it was the end of the rally for Gabb and Cook.
Their next rally at RAF Barkston Heath is on Sunday, August 22. To check their progress log on to www.twitter.com/girlsrally or email girlsrallying@hotmail.co.uk.
Other York MC pairings in the Opposite Lock Rally included Steve Adamson and Mark Blenkinsop, who were 12th overall in their Subaru Impreza; Ian Young and Wayne Smythe, who finished 28th in their Peugeot 309, while Mick Penrose and Steve Campbell suffered a breakdown of their Vauxhall Nova during stage three.
York MC meets every Wednesday at the Fox and Hounds pub at Copmanthorpe from 9pm.
