Glasgow four-piece Mitchell Museum’s exciting debut is perfect candy-floss fun for the summer.

The band admit to being fans of US bands Menomena and WHY?, but spread across the 13 tracks is a clear love of The Polyphonic Spree and the Flaming Lips, the latter most obvious on Room For Improvement and Take The Tongue Out.

By releasing their debut through the label arm of clothing designer Electra French, possible studio interference was dodged, and it shows: single Warning Bells and Copy & Paste sound like friends having fun in a studio rather than a band on a deadline.

This sense of enjoyment infuses the music with a giddy glee, and although the album could be called derivative because it sounds like The Flaming Lips drunk on a merry-go-round, it’s so entertaining and refreshing, it’s honestly hard to care.
