A TEENAGER from York has cycled the 250 miles from London to York in just two days to raise money for an Alzheimer’s charity.
Kevin Bowes, 19, from Huby, completed the trip by himself and has raised over £1,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society, which works with people affected by dementia and their carers.
He said: “My grandma has Alzheimer’s, and I’ve seen her condition deteriorate. A close friend’s grandma also passed away from a form of the disease.
“I’ve also seen how difficult it is for the carers, because they can’t build a relationship with their patients. So I wanted to do something to help people who suffer from the disease and the carers who look after them.”
His mum, Julie, insisted that Kevin phone every few hours to let her know he was safe.
And his mobile phone ended up saving the day when he got a puncture only a few miles from home in Bishopthorpe. Luckily, Kevin’s dad, Antony, was on hand with a spare bike, which enabled Kevin to complete his journey.
