YORK Cricket Club Under-15s have been crowned North East champions after beating County Durham outfit Greenside by 67 runs.

York now progress to the regional finals and if they are victorious they will compete in the prestigious national finals next month.

It may have been a comprehensive victory over Greenside, but at one point York were teetering on 33-5 after being put in to bat.

Hamish Lynde hammered seven fours and three sixes on his way to a priceless 50 retired, while skipper Chris Burn bludgeoned seven fours and two sixes in his 46. Peter Boxall added 20 not out to see York to 150.

In reply, Greenside motored to 32 off the first four overs, but off-spinner Felix Adams delivered an inspired spell of 3-10 off his four overs. Miserly shifts from Ryan Waite and Adam Maltby saw Greenside close on 83-7.

York also stayed on course for a Championship and President’s Cup double in the York & District Junior Cricket Association U15s League.

They lifted the President’s Cup with a win over Bishopthorpe – the side they beat in the Championship play-off semi-finals.

Bishopthorpe won the toss and elected to bat, and openers Jacob Green (27) and Ryan Partington (14) looked comfortable.

It took a stunning catch by Lynde to dismiss Green and the Bish batsmen then struggled to get the ball away with Waite taking 2-16 and Maltby 3-15.

Bishopthorpe came back towards the end of the innings with E Meek (19no) and C McLeary (18no) taking the total to 114-6.

The York innings was anchored by Sam Beales, who carried his bat for a top-scoring 37 not out. Adams made 21 and Lynde 26 as they won by six wickets. Green took 3-28.
