AN 11-YEAR-OLD girl has suffered serious injuries in an accident in a Selby village.

The girl, from Sherburn-in-Elmet, has been discharged from intensive care, but remains in hospital, and police are appealing for witnesses.

She was in collision with a red Renault Clio at the junction of Low Street and Church view.

The emergency services were called and the road closed while the girl was treated. Because of the severity of her injuries, which included head injuries, the Yorkshire Ambulance Service called in the Yorkshire Air Ambulance which landed nearby.

The girl was then flown to Leeds General Infirmary.

A North Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said the girl was initially taken to intensive care. But she has recovered such that doctors have discharged her from the intensive care unit.

Her condition is described as “improving” although she remains in hospital.

The accident happened on Wednesday just after 3.30pm and the road was closed until 6.30pm while police officers investigated the accident. The driver of the Renault Clio was spoken to by officers but no arrests have been made.

North Yorkshire Police has asked that any witnesses to the accident, or anyone else who has any information regarding the collision, phone them on 0845 6060247.
