A CHARITY whose vehicles travel more than 50,000 miles a year has started to offer advertising space to businesses.

Selby Community Transport has a fleet of minibuses which are regularly seen on the roads of the district and county.

The charity is taking advantage of the public presence their vehicles have by offering businesses and other organisations the chance to have adverts on the side of the vehicles.

The minibuses are used by community groups to transport members to meetings and for trips.

The first organisation to take advertising on the service’s vehicles is Basis Team, from Community House, which helps local groups to access Lottery funding.

Julie Bloomfield, governance officer at Basis Team, said: “As an organisation working within Selby District and delivering our service to local groups and voluntary organisation it makes sense for us to advertise with Selby District Community Transport, as the minibuses are always out and about and are used by lots of groups that we could work with.” She said: “The cost of the advertising is very competitive and it’s a win-win situation for Basis and Community Transport; we get coverage across the whole district of Selby and the fee we pay goes to another community group in Selby.

“As the children’s song goes, the wheels on the bus go round and round – in our case it’s the money that goes round and round as well.”

Ken Harris, Selby Community Transport manager, said the charity provides an essential service to local people and groups and is always looking for new and innovative ways of raising cash.

He said the advertising space was available at competitive rates. For more information, phone 01757 708036.
