Cawood Bridge is to be closed for three days this month to carry out repair work to the road surface.

The daytime closure, which will run from August 10 to 13 from 8am to 5.30pm, affects the B1222 Cawood Road to the B1223 Kelfield Road. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout.

North Yorkshire County Council’s Highways Department said a local alternative route would be signposted throughout the closure.

The bridge was last closed in May when essential repairs were carried out to a number of bolts on the structure. At the time, traffic travelling between York and Cawood, Church Fenton and Wistow was directed to Selby or Tadcaster.

Built in the 1830s, it is the only car crossing point over the River Ouse between the southern part of the A64 York Outer Ring Road and Selby Toll Bridge.
