THE potential impact of the extra traffic York’s proposed community stadium project could create is to come under the spotlight this week.

Councillors representing the Huntington and New Earswick wards will meet with officials at City of York Council to discuss plans for dealing with an increase in motorists should a new home for York City FC and York City Knights be built at Monks Cross.

The site near Huntington Stadium, the Knights’ current ground, has been chosen as the preferred option for the new arena, with an “enabling development” likely to be created nearby to help fund the project.

Councillors Carol Runciman, Keith Hyman and Keith Orrell will meet officers from the authority tomorrow to air the concerns of local residents about the impact the scheme, if it goes ahead, could have on their lives.

Coun Hyman said: “The stadium has the potential to be a real boost for the local area, but its important residents are fully involved and their concerns addressed.”
