A 14-year wait came to an end as Dunnington were crowned champions of division one in the Fulford Ladies Invitation Tennis League.

The title winners, who clinched it with a win over York 2, discovered a blend of youth and experience, with Emma Loten, Charlotte Mitchell and Alex Bolam being helped along by Nicola Loten, Nicola Mooney, Katie Milne and Karen Mitchell.

Dunnington 2 could yet make it a club double as they are second in division four, two points behind David Lloyd but with two games left to play.

Fulford went joint second in division five after beating Dunnington 3, thanks to 28 games from Katie Harrison and Jane Wallace.

But, although they are level with Copmanthorpe, Fulford’s inferior games difference means they miss out on promotion.

Division two leaders Bishopthorpe suffered a 63-45 defeat against Tadcaster Nomads. Carol Hall and Lorraine Pearcey won 24 games.

Appleton Roebuck, leaders in division three, were helped out when Wistow beat their closest title rivals Wigginton. Sue Hudson and Helen Haywood won 25 games.

Division six side Bishopthorpe 2 won a second successive promotion as they beat Copmanthorpe, thanks to 28 games from Chris Atkinson and Sasha Taylor.

Rufforth took the division seven title with a win over Wilberfoss and a walk over against Stamford Bridge.
