ALTHOUGH the withdrawal of funds for York Minster and the National Railway Museum is disappointing for all those involved, long-time supporters and for the city as a whole, some funding for these and other projects could be obtained from alternative sources.
These might include subscriptions, bequests, charitable trusts and donations. The restoration and maintenance of the Flying Scotsman is one successful example of alternative funding.
Obviously in the current economic circumstances, museums are not a priority for public funds compared to the needs of the health service and the welfare of the public.
