VETERANS of the Parachute Regiment visited a North Yorkshire air base to see how modern pilots are trained.
Twenty members of the Darlington branch of the Parachute Regiment Association (PRA), who had fought in the Second World War, Palestine, Korea, the Falklands and the Gulf, were given a tour of RAF Linton-on- Ouse.
The veterans were also invited to take a close-up look at the Tucano T1 training aircraft by pilot officer Matt Lloyd, lunch in the officer’s mess, and paid tribute to the 2,011 men and women from RAF Linton on Ouse who were killed during the Second World War. Malcolm Pickering, of the Darlington branch of the PRA, said: “The RAF looked after us magnificently, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time at Linton-on-Ouse. We are really grateful to the RAF for taking the time and trouble to host us and make us feel welcome.”
