ANGLER Matthew Crowl topped the weights as Shepherds AC enjoyed a productive day trip to the River Don at Crimpsall for the Summer Outing Trophy.

Crowl was the best of some superb haul, bagging a mixed net of roach, skimmers, hybrids and perch.

Fishing maggot at 14 metres over groundbait, he finished the day with 21lb 8oz.

The day’s only barbel fell to Steve Johnson on meat fished in conjunction with a maggot feeder.

Meanwhile, Bethany’s Lake produced the bulk of the action at Langwith Lakes on Sunday.

From peg 30, Tony Stephenson put together a 57lb 6oz winning haul.

Using pellet across to the island, Stephenson kept in touch with carp to 3lb for the whole match.

Using the same approach at peg 17 on Bethany’s was Tim Bell, who came within a couple of fish. He ended the day with 53lb 8oz to his credit.

The North-East Championship was fished by 45 rods on the River Wharfe at Ulleskelf on Sunday.

Chub failed to show in the numbers of the previous match, but Ricky Gaunt managed to tempt five of them along with dace using maggot and caster on both waggler and bomb at peg 16 for a 12lb 13oz winning net.

Next in line for a brown envelope was Stan Jeffries, who used stick and maggot at peg 97 to beat a barbel of 4lb, which he topped up to 10lb 1oz with roach and dace.

The previous day on the same venue, chub were the order of the day for the leaders and winner Tony Greenwood beat 14 of them to score his comfortable win.

Drawn at peg 14, the Bingley rod used caster under both stick and waggler to produce a 27lb 2oz final haul.

Tony Parr found chub of a smaller stamp with waggler and the shell at peg 50, taking ten fish at intervals for a 16lb 15oz finish.

York-based Tim Harrsion took third with a 12lb 6oz bag.

A quiet first hour did not augur well for Chris Burton in the latest match on the Aire at West Haddlesley but the hoped for bream arrived and, at the whistle, he had seven fish to 6lb in the net for a 33lb 3oz tally which also included around 5lb of perch.

Burton used chopped worm in the feeder at half width off a peg eight draw.

Leading the rest with 10lb 5oz was Phil Austin (Barlby Village Stores) at peg 55, where red maggot at ten metres brought a mix of roach, perch and skimmers.

Viking Fishery at Pollington has seen plenty of match action over the past week.

In Thorpe Willoughby’s Thursday evening match, Trevor Radcliffe showed his class for the second week running by using pole and pellets to win with 61lb 8oz in this three-hour match on Deer pond.

Second was M Butterfield with 51lb.

R Longbottom was third with 46lb 8oz, S Greenhill fourth with 46lb, M Shipley fifth with 44lb.

Barnbow AC held a club match on Hawk pond on Saturday.

G Brammer came first with 54lb 4oz from peg 25, J Mathers coming second from peg 12 with 51lb 11oz.

Not far behind him for third place was S Ramskill, with 50lb 9oz from corner peg ten, with I Butler third with 48lb 1oz and M McLean fifth with 42lb 1oz.

The regular Saturday Open was held on Deer pond this week.

It was won by Hull’s Phil Jennings with 67lb 8oz of small carp, chub and skimmers on pellet bait from peg 24.

Close on his heels was Goole’s John Prime with 67lb 2oz.

Third was R Summerscales with 59lb 8oz, T Bullass’ 59lb 6oz gained him fourth place. K Coupland came fifth with 50lb.
