THE assorted members of The Foo Fighters have solo projects in the same way that spiders have webs, so it comes as no surprise that the outfit’s guitarist Chris Shiflett has taken time off from his day job to showcase his evident love of country and western music.

He aims a nod at the usual strategy of his full-time group by devoting most of his efforts to a handful of songs and padding out the rest of the album, which is fine if the supposed stand-out tracks cut it.

But while the likes of Bandages, Helsinki and the Ryan Adams-lite Get Along are well-crafted and pleasant enough, this is a one-paced, one-dimensional offering which is unlikely to earn Shiflett too many plaudits beyond C&W aficionados, and those who just have to get their hands on anything Foos-related.

As an exercise in killing time while his main paymasters are on hiatus, it does the job, but Shiflett shows little to suggest his musical scope is wide enough to allow him to carve out his own path.
