DO you want to suffer for art or join in on the fun? If you’re seeking art, check out the new Herbie Hancock collection, but if you wish to enjoy pure undiluted pop, look no further than Planet Jedward.

Rather famously, during the run-up to the General Election, Gordon Brown was asked his opinion of the Irish twins. “They’re rather rubbish, aren’t they!” came the reply, but by then, John and Edward already had become accustomed to such remarks. Indeed, during an early heat of The X Factor, Simon Cowell referred to the lads as “vile little creatures”. Respect to the lads for not crumbling to such vitriol.

Jedward can hardly hold a tune, they can’t rap, and they dance like idiots, but there is something magical about their act. They make people smile. And that is precious.

The set list for their debut album has been chosen with care, panache and humour. Hence we are treated to covers of I Like To Move It, Rock DJ, I Want Candy and M’s disco classic Pop Muzik. Slightly more mature observers will groan at Jedward’s take on The Undertones’ Teenage Kicks and their sanitised version of the Beastie Boys’ Fight For Your Right To Party, but you have to admire their determination and gall.

To top it all, the highlight of Planet Jedward has to be Ghostbusters, revisited and revived in the most outrageous and upbeat fashion.
