YORK clinched a York & District Junior Cricket Association Under-15s championship and cup double with an emphatic win over Dunnington.

The Clifton Park youngsters won the Hirepoint Plant & Tool Hire championship final at Heworth – their first title at this age group in ten years.

Charlie Elliot top-scored with 51 not out as York posted a score of 177-4.

Hamish Lynde was unbeaten on 41 not out and Felix Adams hit a belligerent 49.

Dunnington’s reply got off to a sorry start as Lynde took three wickets in the second over.

Lynde finished with figures of 4-11 and new-ball partner Chris Burns finished with 1-6.

The Dunnington tail staged a rearguard action, with George Thompson hitting 12, including a six, and Jack Spofforth eight as the last over went for 14, but they fell well short at 69-8.

The Clifton Park team’s U13s were beaten by six wickets against Londesborough Park in the final of Hirepoint Plant & Tool Hire Cup.

Park avenged their defeat by York in last year’s final, overhauling their opponents’ score of 105-1 for the loss of four wickets.

York started well with Andrew Brewster and captain Toby Pratt both retiring unbeaten on 30.

The smart stumping of Cameron Lynde, when he had made 17, by Jack Lakin off the bowling of Stephen Croft was the only wicket to fall.

York were unable to accelerate after their good start, restricted by excellent fielding and bowling from Londesborough.

Park suffered an early blow when Ben Shingles was bowled in the first over by Ben Williams.

Croft was next to go, leaving Londesborough on 19-2 in the fifth over.

However, skipper Will Stephenson and Nathan Saltmer united for a match-winning stand.

Stephenson hit five boundaries in his 31 before retiring and Saltmer, in a very well-judged innings, struck a six and three fours before retiring on 33.

They took the score to 69 after ten overs but, after Joe Shingles helped Park to reach 99-2 with four overs remaining, James Taylor (2-13) bowled a doublewicket maiden for York.

Charlie Cartwright remained calm and clipped a four in the penultimate over before hitting the winning runs off the next ball.

John Calder, of sponsors Hirepoint Plant & Tool Hire, presented the trophies in the U15s and U13s finals.
