A TELEVISION producer from York has had his first programme commissioned for ITV1.

Jimmy Baker, 30, who grew up in Acomb, now lives in London where he works for Hat Trick Productions.

The former All Saints’ RC School pupil has co-created a factual entertainment show called Dinner Date, which airs on Monday at 12.30pm.

The premise for the show, which sounds like Come Dine With Me crossed with Blind Date, is that five contestants try to impress a member of the opposite sex with a menu they will cook at home.

The lucky guy or gal will choose three of the contestants’ menus and be treated to their hospitality. They will then choose to eat out at their favourite restaurant with the one that impressed them most.

Then all three of the contestants get dolled up ready to leave for the date. But only one gets the date and the other two answer the doorbell to a microwave dinner for one.

The series will run for 20 episodes, which have been filmed all over the UK.

Jimmy started as a runner for Hat-Trick before working his way up to assistant producer, working on Hat Trick’s shows including Have I Got News For You, The Bubble and Alan Carr’s Celebrity Ding Dong.

Jimmy said he was throwing ideas around with his colleagues when they came up with the idea for Dinner Date.

He said: “It’s a bit of a dream of mine to get a show that I’ve created on television. It’s something I have wanted for a long time.

“The reason I got into television was to get an idea of mine on screen and for it to happen now is very exciting. Hopefully it’s the first one of many.

“There are always ideas in with different channels and we hope they like the ideas as much as we do,” he said.
