A DISPERSAL order is being brought in around Bridlington harbour and seafront to stop young people jumping off the pier.
Police officers and police community support officers will have the power to tell people in groups of two or more to disperse and not to return for up to 24 hours; failure of which can result in arrests. After 9pm officers may also remove anyone under the age of 16 to their home or a place of safety.
The order is being brought in following complaints about groups of people shouting, swearing and spitting sea water on the promenade and around the harbour – often associated with groups of people who jump from the walls, an activity known as tombstoning.
