MANCHESTER United fan Harry Todd will lead one of his heroes out on to the Wembley pitch tomorrow before the FA Community Shield match against Chelsea.

Harry, 11, from Crockey Hill, near York, won a national competition to be a McDonald’s Player Escort, but he won’t find out which star he will accompany until just before the game.

Earlier in the day, he will get a chance to meet England World Cup legend Sir Geoff Hurst for a special pre-match breakfast at the Wembley Hilton Hotel.

Harry, who has been a pupil at St Oswald’s CE School, Fulford, but starts at Fulford School next month, said yesterday: “I am really, really excited, but in loads of shock. I can’t believe it’s happened. It’s crazy.

“I’ve told my friends – I think they’re a bit jealous.”

He said he would most like to accompany Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs or Paul Scholes on to the pitch, but would be happy whichever player he was allocated.

Harry’s mother, Debbie, said she and her son would travel down to London today, and stay – all-expenses paid – at the Hilton tonight, with Harry’s dad Andy, and brother, Jake, 14, travelling down to Wembley tomorrow, and the whole family would watch the match from the stands.

She revealed it would be the first time Harry had seen his heroes in the flesh, having not been able to get to Old Trafford so far.

McDonald’s said it offered 22 children from across the country the chance to lead out their football heroes at the annual curtain raiser to the football season as part of its Football In The Community Programme.
