A faultless performance saw angler Gareth Drury win the HV Power Electrical Systems festival at the Oaks complex.

The Dynamite Baits rod pocketed £2,300 thanks to the generous sponsorship and will be hoping he can repeat the feat next year as an amazing £10,000 has been pledged for the winning angler.

Despite winning both days of the 55-peg festival, it still came to overall weight as four anglers tied on a perfect two-section win score of two points.

Saturday saw him take the honours from Sycamore 29 with 80lb 13oz of small carp to pellet at 13 metres.

The following day he was top of the pile again with 110lb 12oz from Cedar 68.

Alternating maggot up in the water at 12 metres and corn down the edge, he netted carp to 5lb.

His total of 191lb 9oz saw the Skipton, North Yorkshire-based rod, take the envelope from John Chapman (Garbolino Elton), Bert Poole (Oaks) and Lee Harrison (Middy).

It was a quiet weekend on the local match scene with many anglers enjoying a Bank Holiday break from the river bank.

The only match of consequence on the Ouse was the Leeds Annual match between Hunter’s Lodge and Linton that attracted 80-rods.

Steve Raper extended his recent good run of results on the rivers with a comfortable win on another match badly affected by high winds.

Drawing peg 248 at Linton, Raper cast a crumb feeder armed with maggots across to a far bank bush and was rewarded with an 11lb 12oz net made of a trio of chub to 4lb and four skimmers.

Tony Earnshaw drew peg 272 on the Linton shallows, where maggot and caster under the waggler accounted for a 6lb 13oz mixed haul of 50 small fish, just enough to see him take second spot.

Result: 1 Steve Raper, Hirst Tackle, 11-12-0; 2 Tony Earnshaw, Hirst Tackle, 6-13-0; jt3 Terry Morgan, Aireborough & Craig Turbitt, Sensas Tackle-2-U both 6-10-0; 5 Pete Hyde, Leeds Angling, 4-14-0; 6 Paul Clark, Hirst Tackle, 4-10-0; 7 Paul Bennett, Sensas Tackle-2-U, 4-6-8; 8 Bob Foster, Sensas Tackle-2-U, 3-12-0.

The travelling band of happy rods from Shepherds AC ventured to the Selby Canal at Brayton Bridge for their latest outing.

The canal was crystal clear with areas of duck weed on the surface, which they managed to peg around.

Ian Hardcastle won from peg one, catching two tench, the larger being 3lb 14oz, a bream of 5lb backed with perch all caught on worm over chopped worm baiting for a total of 13lb.

Second from peg 14 was Bryan Stephenson with a tench and a few small fish for a total of 4lb 14oz.

Others: 3 A Moult 2-2-0, 4 P Mills 1-6-0, 5 S Pattison 1-3-8, 6 P Webster/N Crowl 1-3-0, 8 C Bannister 1-1-0, 9 D Findlay 1-0-0, 10 M Crowl 0-15-0, 11 P Dawson 0-10-0, 12 D Rickell/J Lamb 0-7-0.

Kelly sees Double...

Carpvale Doubles has been in great form again and York angler Dennis Kelly got stuck into some hefty fish.

Casting tight to the second island from peg F, the 35-year-old truck driver caught on Mainline Cell and CC Moore bloodworm boilies.

Both offerings were topped with plastic corn.

The pick of Kelly’s 11-fish haul were a 16lb 10oz mirror carp and a 14lb 11oz common carp.
