TWO new bus stops have been installed to give people better access to a leisure and business park on the edge of York.
The pick-up and drop-off points have been placed at Clifton Gate Business Park, close to the Creepy Crawlies children’s play area, following pressure from a City of York councillor.
Coun Dave Merrett pushed for the introduction of the bus stops near the Wigginton junction on York’s Outer Ring Road over several years after marking the area out as a potential safety risk, with the nearest stops being at the Clifton Moor Shopping Park and no continuous footpath connection to the business park.
“This will be a big benefit for parents wanting to get to Creepy Crawlies by public transport without the long trek from Clifton Moor and the danger and difficulty of having to cross the Outer Ring Road on foot and walking along the uneven grass verges,” he said.
“It’s a shame it has taken so many years to get this sorted and this is only some of the work which is needed. What is also important and necessary is a clear crossing point and some proper footpaths.
“Only then can we say the site is safely accessible by public transport.”
