Fulford ‘A’ moved to the top of the York Conservative Clubs’ Carlsberg UK Snooker League with a 5-2 win over their ‘B’ team.

Andy Hurley gave the ‘B’ team a start but Matt Robson and Alan Reed moved the ‘A’ team ahead. Nigel Smith levelled but Pete Dunmore, Tim Lister and James Lee (35 bk) sealed the victory.

Bootham ‘B’ climbed into second spot by defeating Acomb ‘B’ 5-2 as Matt Smith, Chris Dawson, Sam Wood (31 bk), Jeff Brown (25 bk) and Lional Barnes replied to Brian Henry and Keith Myers.

Heworth ‘A’ lost their second consecutive match, going down 4-3 to Malton in a close tie but the six points they gained against Fulford ‘A’ helped to keep them in third place.

John Sherlock won the first game but Malton went 3-1 ahead through Dominic Spetrio, Simon Weatherill and Roger Ward (44 bk). Steve Burdett and Nick Dyson levelled but Tim Foggin defeated Clive Whyte in the final match for Malton’s 4-3 success.

Defending champions Heworth rallied from 3-1 down to level against Acomb in the opening match in the York Conservative Clubs’ Slater Cup Snooker Pairs League.

F Mallinson/M Robinson won the first for Fulford but Acomb won the next three frames. P Hodgson/M Frampton made it 3-2 and K Batty/S Shaw levelled for Heworth and ensured the aggregate for 4-3 turn around.

Bootham came unstuck at home to Fulford. After P Henderson/B Flewitt had levelled with a black-ball win, Fulford went 4-1 ahead. T Cox/C Sanderson gained Bootham’s second point, also with a black-ball success, but Fulford easily gained the aggregate for a 5-2 victory.

Bootham ‘B’ and Fulford created history by recording the first draw in the York Conservative Clubs’ Faber Shield Billiards League as a result of the teams being reduced to five players.

Chris Granger and Ian Robinson (who beat Terry Ward 41, 42 breaks) gave Bootham a lead only for Alan Reed and Bob Plant to level. Although Richard Stroughair (33 bk) gained the last game he was unable to prevent Tim Fillingham scoring enough to give Bootham the aggregate by just four points and earn a 3-3 draw.

Heworth’s Gary Rogers looked assured for the league’s first century but he broke down on 93, then followed with a 50 break.

Brian Birch made it 2-0 only for Colin Robinson (25 bk) and John Darley to level. Steve Burdett sealed Heworth’s win in the fifth game and the aggregate point made it 4-2.
