A TOUCH of deja vu came over me on Thursday last at the City of York Council full council meeting, as I presented a second petition signed by 150 residents regarding the Crichton Avenue bridge.

In February 2009, I presented the first asking for a cycle track on the bridge. Instead, the cycle track on Crichton Avenue has made matters worse on the bridge. Cyclists still cycle on the road unaware of the track or perhaps they would rather not collide with parents pushing prams and pedestrians.

Either way, cyclists now have permission to cycle on the pavement whereas beforehand the police were able to fine the offenders and make them get off and push.

I have petitioned, along with the Clifton Residents’ Association, for a segregated cycle track. What bothers me most is that yet again we are in position where we have to refer these schemes back to the executive to look again at its decision because, just like the Water End fiasco, money is being wasted having to review and redo such schemes.
