YORK is to get its first new council houses in more than 20 years after the development was given the green light by planners.
The family homes will be built in Lilbourne Drive, Clifton and will include nine two-bedroom and ten three-bedroom houses.
The homes will be more environmentally-friendly than the standard required for new developments.
Work is expected to start in February and be completed in early 2012. The scheme is being funded with £1.12 million from the Homes and Communities Agency and £2.6 million from City of York Council.
