STONEMASONS JW Smith, of Wheldrake, have taken on two apprentices from York College.
Edward O’Brien and Daniel Kelly had applied to do the stonemasonry course at the college, which is a centre of excellence for the craft.
Steve Widdison, director of JW Smith, said: “We were looking for an apprentice stonemason and were surprised to find not one, but two students, who fitted the bill perfectly. They are doing well and their skills will enhance our business in the future.”
JW Smith has been designing bespoke stone products for more than 25 years, using granite, marble, yorkstone, recycled glass and slate.
It is now looking to take on a further apprentice in a customer services role through the business development unit at York College.
