A PROPOSED new restaurant in York will cater for up to 270 diners and create 65 to 70 jobs, it has emerged.

The Press reported yesterday that the Cloverleaf restaurant is being planned for a site at Monks Cross, next to a new budget hotel and a children’s nursery, which will generate a total of up to 200 new jobs.

Now Gary Douglas, director of Cloverleaf Restaurants Ltd, has revealed further details of the planned restaurant. He said it was estimated that the development will generate in the region of 65 to 70 jobs.

About a third of these will be full-time, employing local people in all positions where possible.

He said: “A co-ordinated recruitment strategy will be established with York City Council’s economic development team and Jobcentre Plus to achieve this, including a clear focus on training and staff development, which enhances the local skills pool.

“In addition to this, the restaurant will appoint local suppliers, where possible, to service both construction and operational requirements, thereby benefiting the wider local economy. Unlike many businesses, Cloverleaf is not tied to large supply companies and the company actively works with local supplier chain producers.”
