BOSSES at a luxury hotel which is aiming to win a five-star ranking could see plans to boost its facilities given the go-ahead next week.

The owners of the £20 million Cedar Court Hotel, which opened earlier this year on the site of the former British Rail headquarters in Station Rise, have applied for permission to install a temporary marquee on its garden terrace deck.

They say the move would allow it to cater for large celebrations and functions which require more room than it can currently offer, and have said the arrangement would also boost trade for other nearby hotels.

The proposal will be discussed by City of York Council’s west and city centre area planning sub-committee next week, and officers have recommended it for approval.

If this is rubber-stamped, the temporary marquee will be able to operate between December 1 and January 10 and the start of June to the beginning of September each year until January 2013. Officers say if the hotel wants to keep the marquee after that, it will have to look for a permanent replacement.

Inspectors are set to visit Cedar Court over the next few months to assess whether it should receive five-star status.
