Updated: SEVEN people were arrested and more than £20,000 of suspected stolen goods were seized in a series of police raids in York.
Those arrested included a 71-year-old suspected drug dealer and two suspected brothel keepers, after warrants were executed at nine addresses across York.
The raids, which targeted stolen goods, brothel keeping, misuse of drugs and money laundering, saw a hoard of drugs including cannabis and amphetamine seized, vehicles worth a total of £20,000 from a property in Murton, near York, and five high-value bicycles from a property in Celtic Close, Acomb, which were suspected of being stolen.
The raids formed part of Operation Secure, and were designed to encourage members of the public to pass information confidentially to North Yorkshire Police or to Crimestoppers about suspicious activity and people they believe are indulging in crime.
The raids saw:
• Wang Hoang Wing, 24, and Lele Zhou, 40, arrested and charged with keeping a brothel in Landsdowne Terrace.
• A 38-year-old man from York arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled drug after police executed a warrant at Arncliffe House, Burnsall Drive in Holgate, York.
• A 71-year-old man arrested on suspicion of possessing controlled drugs with intent to supply following a warrant executed at Allen Close in Tang Hall, York.
• A 27-year-old man from York arrested and charged with assault and harassment.
• A 16-year-old youth from Celtic Close arrested on suspicion of theft of cycles and possession of cannabis.
• A 31-year-old woman from Tang Hall given a caution for possession of cannabis.
York Safer Neighbourhood Inspector Alisdair Dey said: “Information from members of the public is vital and these results show what can be done when police and the public work together.”
