A GRADUATE who worked as a volunteer at an African orphanage is urging York residents to help her improve the youngsters’ education.
Former Fulford School pupil Deborah Moore is organising a photographic exhibition and fundraising event at Bar Lane Studios, in Micklegate, York, on Saturday, December 4, from 4pm to 10pm. The event is to raise funds for a boys orphanage in Kenya.
She worked as a volunteer at Sure 24, in Nakuru, near Nairobi, during the summer after graduating from Edinburgh University.
The display includes pieces by Malachi Timothy which explore nature, landscape and the people of Kenya through photography.
Photographs will be available to purchase with all profits being used to fund the youngsters’ schooling.
Deborah said: “It costs 82p per day for each child’s education, a meal and shelter so money raised can make a real difference.
“There are some fabulous prizes on offer so please come along to the exhibition to have a taste of the landscape of Kenya and have the opportunity to win a prize while donating to a worthwhile cause”.
Deborah is intending to return to Kenya next year to do more voluntary work at Sure 24.
