WHILE many were glad to see the back of the region’s snow and ice this week, one event in York was busy creating its own.
The Festival of Angels is an annual tradition in York, featuring ice carving and outdoor music and entertainment, and this year saw a mixture of real and fake snow dusting the event.
Fifteen ice carvings were on display including Harry Potter, Tigger, AliceIin Wonderland’s Mad Hatter, Sonic The Hedgehog and a fairy castle.
A brass band and festive parade of angels added to the atmosphere, with the Lord Mayor of York, Coun Sue Galloway leading the parade.
Coun Galloway said: “Whether it is a contemporary or classic Christmas experience you want, anyone coming to York from now until Christmas will be amazed by what this extraordinary city has to offer. I’d encourage anyone in search of some festive fun to come and see for themselves. I truly believe York is the country’s ‘Christmas Capital’.”
