FESTIVE cheer and audience participation saw the 2010 Community Carol Concert raise the roof at the Central Hall of the University of York.
Viewed by many as the city’s official start to Christmas, Sunday’s event was the 53rd annual community carol concert, and more than 700 people were present to hear performances from school choirs from around York.
Performing for the first time was the York Arts Academy Big Band, conducted by Derek Warley, but among performers returning to take part in the concert was the York Senior Schools Concert Band.
Graham Bradbury, honorary organising secretary of the concert, said: “We want to say a big thanks to everyone who braved the weather and came along.”
Also performing were the Carr Junior School Choir, the St Barnabas CE Primary School Choir, the Steve Cassidy Band and the St Nicholas’s Church of England Choir.
Yesterday’s concert was also the 15th event hosted by the Rev Andrew Foster.
The performance was recorded by York Hospital Radio to be broadcast to its listeners over the festive period.
Donations were also collected at the event, with all proceeds going towards The Press’s Guardian Angels Appeal along with the Lord Mayor and Sheriff of York’s Christmas Cheer Fund.
