PUPILS at York primary schools are continuing to excel at Key Stage 2, according to the latest Government figures.
The Key Stage 2 achievement and attainment tables show that the results of many York schools are well above national averages and an improvement on last year.
The Department for Education has published final results for the June 2010 Key Stage 2 tests for 11 year olds, which show that at Key Stage 2 Level Four plus – the expected level of achievement for 11-year-olds – all results are well above the national average. In English, 84 per cent of pupils achieved Level 4 or above, four percentage points above the national average, and in maths the figure was 83 per cent, again four percentage point above the national average. Pete Dwyer, director of adults, children and education at City of York Council, said: “There have been individual schools successes across the city and some schools have seen the highest set of results so far. The hard work of pupils and teaching staff has produced positive results right across the city and in all subject areas.
“We recognise the support of parents and the collective efforts of a range of partner organisations in these achievements, which really do help ensure our children in York have the best possible start in life.”
