IN THE Press of December 12, it says that Amey Cesna will invest £900 million in Allerton Park Incinerator.
I think we will find the investment will be of the order of £90 million, most of which will be funded by the PFI.
What I do not understand is for such an investment (£90 million) Amey-Cesna will receive about £600 million over 25 years in Government subsidy (about £24 million per year) – more than six times their investment.
I have assumed that the subsidy does run for this length of time. If it is only 20 years, it is still more than five times their initial investment. At a time when the country needs every penny, why are we subsidising operations that do not need to be subsidised to be viable investments?
I would recommend our councils act together to prevent the subsidy being given before it is too late.
