STUDENTS from Selby College were rewarded for their outstanding achievements at a special ceremony at Selby Abbey.
The 18th annual awards evening was held at the abbey, and hundreds of VIPs, parents and award winners gathered to see about 140 students receive awards at a ceremony hosted by the Very Reverend Keith Jules, Dean of Ripon.
Winners included Danny Bulmer, who became the first recipient of the Scott Robinson Memorial Prize for Endeavour in Hospitality and Catering, and former Selby College Student’s Union president Joseph Bijster, who received the first Selby-Carentan Twinning Award for Outstanding Achievement in French.
Joseph, who is now studying modern European languages at Salford University, said the award was “a real honour” and thanked his tutors at Selby College, Heather Lister and Pam Waldie, who he said were “the best teachers I’ve ever had”.
The main sponsor of this year’s event was DC Training and Development Services Ltd, a key partner of Selby College over the past nine years. Local firms NCFE and AECOM also sponsored awards on the night.
