MARIE Curie Cancer Care is giving its fundraising “a bit of welly” by asking people to “fill their boots”.
The charity hopes its Christmas campaign will attract extra attention by using Wellington boots to collect cash.
Local fundraiser Kyla Collins said the new idea was already being tried out in garden centres in North Yorkshire. She said: “It’s a great idea, a novel way to bring fundraising to us locally and so in fitting with our local area.
“It feels like proper Yorkshire fundraising.”
She said the charity was trying to reach more farming and rural communities in a bid to recruit more nurses in the area, which could mean that the difference between patients spending their last Christmas on a hospital ward or at home with their family.
To get involved, phone Kyla on 01904 436625 or email kyla.collins@mariecurie.org.uk and receive a free welly-decorating kit.
Marie Curie Cancer Care has more than 2,700 nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals helping provide care for terminally ill patients in the community and in hospices, along with support for their families.
