I’VE had a huge smile on my face all day. This is because I saw the York Theatre Royal Pantomime. It seems that Charles Hutchinson and I went to see two completely different shows, because in all honesty this year’s panto is as good as if not better than those of previous years (Review, December 13).
The vast majority of the audience came out of the theatre with aching sides (due to laughing) and exclaiming with a huge amount of affection: “What a load of rubbish!”
Now, to those of you who have not yet been fortunate enough to witness this “rubbish”, it is in fact the highest compliment you can pay to this hilarious ray of winter sunshine.
Because it is a highly entertaining, side-splitting load of “rubbish” with a stellar cast who, for the record, do not disappoint in the slightest. Basically, this delightful pantomime is as fantastic as ever.
Oh, and most people would be confused if there was a plot, and if the slapstick water scene goes, so do I (and many, many others). It is as much a part of the panto as the cast; don’t lay it to rest, make it bigger and better than ever.
