A FEW months ago the university had to ask for an extension to a temporary planning application for its temporary sports hall on the grounds that it had no money left for a permanent structure; this was granted by the council.
We now see in The Press (December 14) that it is seeking further planning permission for a new residential college, shortly after gaining planning permission for a £9million pound sports complex and swimming pool.
Where has all this sudden wealth come from in such a short time? No doubt this permission will also be granted by the council.
Has the university not taken into consideration that with the increase in university fees it may not have enough students to fill a new college; the number of applications will fall because only the rich will be able to apply.
