York Indoor Bowls Club’s unbeaten North Eastern League run stretched to three games after a hard-fought derby with New Earswick.
York won three rinks to Earswick’s one but there was only one shot in the final 80-79 aggregate score.
At Thanet Road, Joyce Gee’s team led 10-9 after ten ends before winning five successive ends to lead 19-9.
Margaret Moss’ team rallied, winning four of the next five ends but a last-end single gave Gee a 22-16 win.
Pat Bracken’s team led 14-8 after 13 ends before Pat Storey’s team hit back with a four then a two to draw level. But the hosts won four of the last six ends to finish 21-16 victors.
At Huntington Road, Barbara Dawson’s team surged 6-0 up after three ends, but Diane Hardy’s team came back to within three shots at 8-5 before the visitors scored 13 unanswered shots.
And despite another spirited rally, Dawson’s rink confirmed victory.
Sheila Hopwood’s rink were in devastating form.
They were 13-2 up after six ends to control the tie and win 35-12. York picked up eight points to remain in second place.
Parks life encounter
Weather permitting, York IBC will take on The Parks IBC of North Shields in the last 32 of the Denny Cup this Saturday at 11am.
The winners will advance to meet Spalding on Sunday, January 2.
Yorkshire’s rearranged EIBA Under-25s Double Rinks game against Lincolnshire is to be staged at Thanet Road, this Sunday at noon.
County conquest
YORKSHIRE Ladies proved again they are a formidable team to overcome Northumberland 127-106 in North Shields and move into the last eight of the Atherley Trophy.
Yorkshire had four winning rinks and one drawn.
Joan Mason’s team came from 8-5 down to take 12 of the remaining 13 ends for a 26-9 victory.
Helen Walker’s rink also trailed 8-5 before taking command – picking up 12 shots from five ends – in a comfortable 29-15 success.
Linda Harrison’s side turned a 17-14 deficit after 17 ends into a 21-20 triumph.
Carol McLean’s team were involved in a similar finish. They trailed 20-17 before scoring a two, then a four, to go into the last end with a 23-20 advantage only to drop three and draw.
Carol Instone’s team were the only rink to lose, with Yorkshire next up to play Cumbria at a neutral venue on Sunday, January 9.
Cave fall
York IBC ladies had an easier than expected ride into the third round of the Yetton Trophy when they beat current Plate winners North Cave 83-50 with all four rinks winning.
Both home rinks led from the start with Linda Harrison’s team winning 26-10 and Helen Walker’s 18-12.
Away, Melanie Brooke’s team also led from start to finish for a 20-11 win.
Carol Instone’s team countered to wipe out a 16-11 deficit and win 19-17.
York were today playing Harrogate, the North Yorkshire derby starting at 12.30pm.
