HUNDREDS of red balloons were released into the sky to celebrate the official opening of a new sports hall at Appleton Roebuck Primary School.
Pupils, parents, teachers and governors have spent the past four years fundraising to reach the £160,000 target needed to fund the building.
It has now been up and running since half-term and is used for PE lessons, assemblies and performances.
Head teacher Derek Angood said: “It’s certainly given us an awful lot more space to do more things in and the children love it.”
The school hosted two days of celebrations to mark the official opening, including a balloon race, a Christmas fayre and Santa’s grotto, and performances of the musical Peace Child.
