A YEAR Six pupil at Huntington Primary School spent the day as head teacher after winning a Children In Need competition.
The new role for ten-year-old Rachel Gladwin came about due to one of the school’s fundraising ideas for the charity appeal.
Ann McKeown – the real head teacher – said Rachel shadowed her for the day and carried out head’s tasks, including greeting the children into school, introducing the school Nativity play to 150 families who came to watch, dealing with a leaky roof as the snow melted and buying party food for 400 children.
She also attended a meeting with the chair of governors, and worked on a regular health and safety inspection.
Rachel said: “My expectations were high, though I knew I’d probably be disappointed as I’d been looking forward to it so much. I wasn’t.
“It was a great day and I wouldn’t have wanted to spend it any other way.”
Mrs McKeown said: “I was very pleased to be joined by Rachel. She did a great job and it was an absolute pleasure to work with her.”
