A book has been published telling the life of the late John Nicholls, a former Selby area village bobby.
The book is the work of Barlby parish councillor Roz Chopping and has the backing of the council.
John, affectionately known by everyone as Big John because of his height, was on the Barlby and Osgodby beat for many years before his retirement after 30 years in the force. Roz had known John since her schooldays and approached the council for its backing.
“It was never in any doubt that they would agree so I set about collecting stories about John from villagers”, said Roz.
“Everyone had lots to say about John, who was one of the most respected and well-known police officers in the area,” said Roz.
She said John never had problems in the village and was always on hand to sort out problems personally and quickly.
