AN INVESTIGATION has been launched into a night-time attack in York which left a man in hospital.
Police were called to a house in Neville Street in The Groves in the early hours of today, following reports of the assault, which led to officers cordoning off the area around the scene of the incident.
They were still at the street for most of today as the probe into what led to the attack continued and crime scene investigators searched for clues and witnesses.
The 48-year-old victim was taken to York Hospital suffering from injuries to his head and arm.
The alarm was raised at about 1.20am, with a police cordon being put around the area outside the terraced house where the man targeted in the attack was found. Two nearby streets, Warwick Street and Stanley Mews, were sealed off as officers stood guard at their entrance.
The victim’s injuries are not life-threatening and although North Yorkshire Police have said the investigation is still in its early stages, they do not believe the attack was carried out randomly and no weapon was used by those responsible.
The police cordon was removed this afternoon after house-to-house enquiries were carried out. Nobody has been arrested.
Anybody with information about the assault or who witnessed anything suspicious in the area late on Wednesday night or in the early hours of Thursday should contact North Yorkshire Police on 0845 6060 247 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
