A gap year student at a North Yorkshire private school has had a metre of her hair cut off and raised more than £1,000 for a school meals feeding programme for the world’s poorest children.
Milly Cooper, 19, had her locks cut by Nicholas Higham, headmaster at St Martin’s Ampleforth School after learning about the work of the charity Mary’s Meals.
A school spokesman said despite Mr Higham receiving a hairdressing lesson, he found it hard to cut through the ponytail, so one of the pupils’ parents, Gillian Robson, of Andre Marcus Professional Salon, Easingwold, tidied up Milly’s hair.
