THE woman in charge of Hadrian’s Wall has been appointed as the new head of governors at a York university.
Ann Green is the new chairman of the board of governors at York St John University.
She lives in York, is chairman of Hadrian’s Wall Heritage Ltd, and is responsible for the World Heritage Site and for both its economic and tourism development.
Earlier this year, Ann was awarded a CBE for her services to museums and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute.
Ann brings to her new role an extensive experience of the commercial world, and the public sector.
She is also chairman of The Royal Armouries Board of Trustees, a non-executive director of the Department of Culture, Media & Sport and is a former director of the Northern Stock Exchange and the Northern Industrial Society.
Ann said: “I have been very impressed by York St John’s campus environment, the warmth of welcome and the staff commitment to providing excellence in teaching and learning. This is a very challenging time for Higher Education and I am really looking forward to contributing to the university’s thriving community.”
Ann will be co-opted on to the governing body next summer when the term ends of the current chairman of governors, Robin Hall.
Professor David Fleming, vice-chancellor, said: “It was a difficult task finding someone who could replace Robin, who has given great outstanding service to the university.
“Ann has that rare combination of experience from business, the public sector and involvement in cultural heritage, which will be a great asset to York St John.”
