GIFTS collected by York St John University staff and students have been presented to Arc Light charity as part of a project organised by York Cares.
Clothing, toiletries, hot water bottles, art materials and books were wrapped up to spread some festive cheer to the residents.
Wheelbarrows were used to transport more than 100 donated gifts to the charity, which provides accommodation and support to homeless men and women in York. The university’s rowing club also donated £200.
Colin Parkin, director of facilities and a trustee on the Board of Arc Light, said: “It is fantastic to see York St John staff and students showing such generosity to those less privileged than themselves and responding so positively to a very worthwhile charity in our local community.”
Jeremy Jones, the chief executive of Arc Light, said: “We are extremely grateful to our neighbours, York St John, for supporting us in this way.
“Christmas is always difficult for the homeless and the vulnerable, and this act of generosity, kindness and understanding will help us make it a happy and homely day for all our residents.”
