CHOCOLATIER Sophie Jewett has recreated a 100-year-old Terry’s chocolate recipe and is selling the products at York’s Castle Museum.
Sophie, who runs chocolate-making business Little Pretty Things at Clifton Moor, recreated the recipe for the vanilla creams from a list of ingredients in Joseph Terry’s original recipe journal, which is stored at the museum.
Gwendolen Whitaker, curator of history at the museum, said: “York Castle Museum has some fantastic recipes from days gone by, including a lot for chocolates and sweets. We thought it would be really interesting to recreate some of them, so chocolates enjoyed by our great- great-grandparents can be enjoyed by us.”
Sophie researched historic boiling methods to create the sweets, which have been traditionally packaged and are being sold at the museum shop and the sweet shop in its Victorian street, Kirkgate.
