ON Thursday, I caught the 17.30 train from King’s Cross to be home at a reasonable hour. At Station Rise at 19.30, I was told that no vehicle traffic was going over Lendal bridge due to “an incident”. I then tried to walk over Lendal Bridge, only to be accosted by a constable who told me I could not and that if I persisted in my argument, he would “call for the van”. I did not pursue my challenge but waited in the city centre, until I thought the incident was over. Oh dear me.
At 2130, and on leaving Petergate, I saw the blockade was still in place. On asking a constable there, I was directed back to the point from where I started. So I walked home.
It seems that North Yorkshire Police has absolutely no idea how to treat the citizens that provides this funding. Just because you have a uniform does not make you superior.
