THE Labour opposition on City of York Council has said it will freeze council tax in its proposed budget for 2011/12.
Labour leader Coun James Alexander said: “As people in York are financially struggling and Conservative Liberal Democrat Government cuts will see people lose their jobs, it would be wrong to increase the council tax this coming year even though this will be understandably difficult for the services the council provides.”
Earlier this year, the Government called on councils nationwide to freeze council tax and Liberal Democrat council leader Andrew Waller has said he will try to do so.
